Embassy Elegant to Old World Chic

Showhouse season brings home decorators a look at innovative design, custom solutions, and decorating ideas galore. Visit a showhouse in your area or choose one to visit while on vacation. You'll not only have a wonderful day exploring a beautiful home, but you'll refresh your sense of creative decorating techniques for use in your own home.

Decorator showhouses are a popular way to raise money for symphonic organizations and other charitable causes. They're also the perfect way to showcase the talents of interior designers, architects, landscapers, painters, and craftsmen.

In Southern California the 11th Annual 2002 Design House Los Angeles was sponsored by the Assistance League of Southern California. The color scheme included a range of neutrals -- black, champagne, taupe, cocoa, and cream -- to blend easily with warm yellow, cinnamon reds, and soft blues. Venetian Plaster walls were a highlight of nearly every room and brought a soft glow to the home.

The 30th Annual National Symphony Orchestra Decorators' Show House offered an exciting glimpse into the elegant homes of Embassy Row. A large central stairwell connects all three floors in an open shaft of light and space. Detailed moldings, fireplaces, built-ins, arched windows, and spacious rooms make this home worthy of its prestigious location.

Always a crowd pleaser, the 2002 Pasadena Showcase House of Design was held in a Mediterranean estate located in Altadena, California. Some of the prominent features included a variety of soft colorwashed specialty paint finishes, aged landscape murals, custom tile floors and baths, sconces, beaded trims, sheer interior draperies, oversize ottomans, large kitchen islands, Tuscan touches, antique Moroccan pottery, soft colors, canopy beds, old World bath suites, ultrasuede upholstered walls, inviting chaises, matchstick blinds, metallic ceilings, and Italian ceramics -- to name just a few!
