The 30th Annual National Symphony Orchestra Decorators' Show House offered an exciting glimpse into the elegant homes of Embassy Row.

One striking feature of this home is its large central stairwell connecting all three floors in an open shaft of light and space. There are over fourteen fireplaces and most rooms include built-in bookcases, arched windows, as well as beautifully detailed moldings and architectural features.

The National Symphony Orchestra Fall 2002 Decorators' Show House used a color palette that included white, cream, moss green, cinnamon red, golden tan, cocoa brown, as well as a handful of other delicious hues.

Here's a brief look at a few of our favorite rooms.

The Drawing Room (Thomas Pheasant, Inc.) -- Just off the foyer is this gracious room showcasing the new line of Thomas Pheasant for Baker furnishings. A center pedestal table with an overhead chandelier subtly divides the space into two generous seating areas. Large paintings at each end of the room anchor the space. Cocoa walls with mossy green draperies and upholstery contrast beautifully with neutral touches and dark wood case pieces.

The Lady's En Suite (Linda Huguely Camalier and Ellen Gilday of Town & Country Baths) -- Dreaming of your own personal retreat? This suite of rooms was made with you in mind. A calming color palette of white, soft green, and gold bring a soothing atmosphere to a sitting room, bath, and spa area. Who could resist the elegant bath with beaded shades and a dressing table that includes a tiny sink? See photo

The Library (Pamela Gaylin Ryder, Inc.) -- This light-filled room is punctuated with built-in bookcases and tall arched windows. A pair of matching loveseats in the center of the room have been upholstered in a pleasing mix of plain, striped, and floral fabrics. A two-tone wood floor and a variety of elegant accessories in green and white complete the design.

The Dining Room (Michael Roberson Interior Design) -- An all white dining room pops with style as traditional architectural details contrast with contemporary artwork and furnishings. Three pendant lights hang in a row over the table and are covered with simple cylindrical linen shades. Art glass vases sparkle in a traditional glass front china cupboard while a bowl of green moss sits peacefully in front of a wall display of twelve mirrored squares. See photo

The Bar Harbor Retreat (The Kellogg Collection) -- A symphony of flowers greets visitors to the Bar Harbor Retreat on the home's third floor. Pale yellow walls and crisp chintz in blue, yellow, and white create a refreshing oasis. Blue and white patterned wool carpeting is the perfect backdrop for the cream colored chest, desk, and night tables, each adorned with hand-painted details in light blue. You'll want to move right in to this pretty space! See photos

Morning Room by

The Morning Room (Joan Polk Interiors, Inc.) -- This cozy space brims with color and personality in proper English style. The main element in the room is a series of built-in cupboards that probably once served as a butler's pantry, yet the space is large enough for a window seat, tea table, and chairs. Faux-painted panels behind some of the glass cabinet doors feature paintings of pretty floral china patterns. See photo

The Red Master Bedroom (Steven Richards & Associates, Inc. and Kelley Interior Design Service, Inc.) -- If you're timid about deep color this room might change your mind. It's cozy, colorful, and wraps the visitor in warmth. Walls of saturated red are set off by white molding details. Brown, tan, and red show up in the furnishings, elaborate bed canopy treatment, and silk draperies that are flounced in three sections and bordered in red. Four matching framed mirrors over the sitting area serve to reflect light back into the room. See photo
