Mary Baltz: "I've always been very independent in furnishing my own homes. I've always started with a white canvas and built upon that over time. In many cases, dut to budget or time constraints, I've found that one nice advantage is knowing what you like and also knowing what you are looking for."

Ann Fox: "My favorite look is definitely rosy, floral cottage style. I love the New England painted furniture style mixed with comfortable slipcovered upholstery -- all accented with vintage flea market inspired accessories. I love pastels as they're so pleasing to live with... especially whites, creams, and pastel greens with rosy accents."

Tricia Foley: "Go with good classic design in terms of furniture...I always look for multi-purpose pieces, that can be used for other rooms as living conditions change...there are so many wonderful simple window treatments and bed linens at low price points that can transform a space with color if you have neutral walls and floors to set the scene for your own personal style."

Rachel Ashwell: "I stick to my palette of pale green, pale pink, pale blue, cream and ivories."

Charlotte Moss: "I think it's all about being yourself, about having that chat in the beginning, whether with yourself or with your new husband or bride, and starting a home. It's really about who you are, not worrying about what you 'should' have, what someone thinks you should have, what the styles are. Rooms should be welcoming, but not so that every picture is so artfully arranged so that it feels like an art gallery or it's ready for a magazine shoot. It's also about self confidence. In decorating, self confidence comes, not from knowing exacly what you want in the beginning, but from experimenting."
